Recently there has been much greater media attention focused upon the issues of sustainability and the impact of climate change on the world. An internationally accepted definition is provided by the Brundtland Commission which defines sustainable development as:
“…development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
At present development is unsustainable, modern lifestyles are rapidly depleting resources and damaging the environment to an extent where the needs of future generations are being compromised.
